First Amendment Arts is proud to present The Magical Misery Tour, posters and prints by the Milwaukee-based husband and wife duo of J W & Melissa Buchanan, better known as The Little Friends of Printmaking. Both J W & Melissa Buchanan will be in attendance at the opening.

Originally trained as fine art printmakers, their dalliance in silk-screened concert posters quickly evolved into a design career. These amazingly talented artists transcend poster genres to create an ever-fresh style that is hard to reference and impossible to look away from.

What The Little Friends of Printmaking do is hard to nail down to any one particular art approach. Their heavy use of negative space illustrations, emphasis on hand drawn type, quirky and whimsical character illustrations, and bright and beautiful color combinations keep the viewer’s eyes moving throughout their work, constantly discovering new bits of artful enjoyment.

Clients of The Little Friends of Printmaking include Nike, Guitar Hero I & II, NPR, and many great musicians and comedians. Their work has been exhibited internationally, and they have been published in the recent books New Masters of Poster Design [Rockport], Two-Faced: The Changing Face of Portaiture [iDN], and Beasts! [Fantagraphics].

The Magical Misery Tour will run Saturday Oct 27 - Dec 4, 2007.

First Amendment Arts is located at 1101 Stinson Blvd at the corner of Broadway and Stinson in NE Minneapolis.
