I recently checked out the MIA’s somewhat-new exhibit “Embarrassment of Riches,” which is show of around 20 photographs depicting the wealth and economy of a wide vast of countries and cultures. all the photos explore this concept of “wealth” and “luxury” from unique angles and in particular focus on the current state of the global economy: the recession, how economic powers have dramatically risen and fallen, the power of oil, etc. essentially the exhibition asks the viewer, “how do these pictures examine or portray the new global economy + the individuals within it?” photographers include abelardo morell, sze tsung leong, cindy sherman, and alec soth, (who is local and currently has a show at the walker!). basically it’s a very interesting and political-charged collection of work, I would recommend checking it out!
Also reminder that STUDENT OPEN HOUSE IS THIS THURSDAY! BE THERE!
