St. Paul Teen Tech Crew

The Teen Tech Crew, a new youth crew in the SMM Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center (KAYSC) at the Science Museum of MN is looking for nine high school crew-members to lead workshops to help build new technology skills in their St. Paul neighborhoods.

Workshops might range from video and animation to video game design and programming microcontrollers. The exact topics will be determined by the crew. The youth will be paid through the St. Paul Youth Job Corps so they have to be St. Paul residents.

Teen Art Gallery Show – Taking Submissions

T.A.G. (Teen Art Gallery) is an organization that puts together gallery shows composed of works done by talented young American artists ages 12-19. The next show is coming up in 2012 and will take place at a New York City gallery. They are currently looking for submissions of art work from talented young artists across the country.  They’re open to a wide variety of arts including sculpture, photography, poetry, paintings, animation, comic-art, video art, installations, drawing, performance art, etc. Submission Deadline is February 1. New York University Tisch School of the Arts accepting applications!

New York University Tisch School of the Arts is now accepting applications for the 2012 summer high school program! Current high school sophomores and juniors have an opportunity to spend four weeks in New York City, Dublin or Singapore.  Students earn six college credits and receive professional training in acting, dramatic writing, filmmaking, musical theatre, photography and imaging, or recorded music. Class time is coupled with the arts and culture of the host city, including visits to ethnic neighborhoods, museums, theatrical productions, concerts and screenings. Volunteers needed for Mural

I spoke to Jenny Jenkins today who is looking for teen(or non-teen) volunteers to help out with a mural project in Powderhorn Park Neighborhood. Above is a picture of artist Richard Barlow’s past mural project in 2009 who is leading the project. Swoon is a street artist from New York City. Swoon went to school in New York thinking she wouldn’t stay there long because she travels a lot, but she went because she couldn’t find a place that was dirty enough or loud enough. Live performances every Saturday night!

This Saturday and all Saturdays to come, me and some friends of mine from Main Street School of Performing Arts in Hopkis are planning music shows every weekend  in Minnetonka at the Living Waters Market. Free Summer Photography Workshops

    Franklin Art Works, a visual and performing arts center in Minneapolis, is hosting 8 weeks of free Saturday photography workshops for local high school students ages 15 to 18. The courses are taught by 9 former McKnight Photography Fellowship recipients, including Xavier Tavera, Peter Haakon-Thompson, Wing Young Huie and Monica Haller, covering a topic of the instructor’s choice. Rainforest Action Netwrok (RAN) is sponsoring an art contest and exhibition featuring work that increases public awareness of General Mills’ use of socially and environmentally unsustainable palm oil sources. Clever spoofs and biting satire are encouraged. Through popular vote and an ultimate decision by jury, one piece in the exhibition will be featured by RAN in coordination with campaign action in a billboard or public installation.
